Four months after trial runs began of the Badarpur-Faridabad stretch of the Delhi metro, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) have started the mandatory inspection from Monday.

A team led by Safety Commissioner R K Kardam began the three-day inspection of the Metro track between Badarpur and Escorts Ajronda in Faridabad.

The inspection team also comprised Deputy Commissioners, Safety, Sulabh Tyagi and Rajbal Khoiwal, Chief Project Engineer R P Parashar, Chief Engineer I P Singh, DMRC Directors H S Anand, A K Gupta, Sharad Sharma and Jitender Tyagi.

The CMRS would carry out the inspection till August 12. This would take the opening of the line to the next step. While partial energy requirements of the corridor would be met by solar power, different teams of the DMRC are working in full swing on areas like electric wires, communication system, and track safety.

The 14-km section is an extension of the ITO- Badarpur line (Purple Line) of the network with which the Delhi metro will make its first entry into Faridabad. Once fully operational, it will span from Kashmere Gate to Escorts Mujesar having a length of 43.4 km.

It will have a total of 32 stations, including five inter-change stations — Kashmere Gate, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, Lajpat Nagar and Kalkaji Mandir. The depot for the section, Arjonda Depot, has been constructed near Sector 20 A.

Since the Metro line is parallel to the busy National Highway 2 connecting south Delhi with Faridabad, the DMRC has constructed nine new pedestrian over bridges (FOBs).

All Metro stations have been designed in such a way that there are FOBs that will facilitate the movement of pedestrians not intending to travel by the Metro.

DMRC has installed 37 lifts and 45 escalators at the nine stations. The lifts will be operated by the environment friendly regenerative braking technology.

Apart from the Mujesar terminal station, the upcoming stations are Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewla Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkhal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, and Bata Chowk.

The CM claimed that the state government has sanctioned Rs 2,082 crore to connect YMCA and Ballabgarh with Metro rail, which will not only improve connectivity between Delhi and Faridabad, but also give a push to the industrial and commercial development in the city.

The chief minister also announced to set up a new 50-bed hospital in sector 55-56.

The government is also carrying out a survey for regularization of unauthorized colonies in the city. According to the 2001 Census, at least one-fourth of Faridabad's population lives in slums. The state government has already prepared a plan to arrest the growth of these clusters in the city.

Hooda also claimed that with a view to restore the lost glory of this famous industrial town, a number of steps have already been taken by the state government. Subsequently, traffic heading from Faridabad to Delhi will be allowed on the second carriageway from September 25.

Sources said traffic diversions are in place to complete the remaining work on the road under the flyover. Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), developer of this 4-km elevated corridor, has set October 1 as the deadline for making the entire project operational. "But initially, traffic heading towards Faridabad will be allowed on the right carriageway. From September 25 it will be shifted to the left carriageway,'' said a senior NHAI official.

He added that the traffic diversion plan will be put in place well ahead if this gets implemented to help guide commuters. "Traffic from Delhi to Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Jaitpur Road, Sarai bypass, Sector 37 will move on the left side on the ground road while traffic from Haryana to MB Road or Ashram will move on the right side on the ground road,'' the official said. There are five land dispute cases related to the project pending in Delhi High Court. After months of delay, Delhi government has finally moved to take possession of an alternate plot for Badarpur police station which has to be shifted to pave way for the project.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials say the handing over of this plot to the private developer, Badarpur-Faridabad Tollway Ltd (BFT), is crucial since the main interchange for Mehrauli will come up on this stretch. A few days after the union road transport and highways minister Kamal Nath urged chief minister Sheila Dikshit to complete land acquisition on this patch, the land and building department issued a notification on Tuesday to take possession of an alternate plot within 15 days.

Officials said the lieutenant-governor resorted to an emergency clause to take possession of the plot. "As soon as the government takes possession of the land, we will move there into porta cabins. At a later stage, we will go for a proper building plan for the police station,'' said B L Sandhu, additional commissioner of police (land and building).

Delhi government sources said that though this panchayat land had been allotted for the police station earlier, a person claiming to be the owner of the plot had got a stay from Delhi High Court. "Now Delhi government is going to court, asking for lifting of the stay. We hope to shift to the new site soon,'' added Sandhu.

On their part, a senior NHAI official said, "We are concerned about the physical handover of entire land for execution of the project than the government taking possession on paper. We were supposed to hand over the entire land to the developer four months back.''

Meanwhile, the five cases related to the land on this portion will be coming up for hearing in the next couple of days.

Although this 4.4-km signal-free corridor was added to the list of Games-related projects later, handing over of the land on the Delhi side had been repeatedly delayed. Earlier, the DDA and NHAI were bickering over how land for the project was to be handed over and also over the compensation rates. Sources said that only a few days back, Delhi government decided to finalise the compensation rate by July 15.

The elevated corridor will be a crucial link between Delhi and Faridabad. The stretch, which includes a 3-km long six-lane elevated highway, was originally scheduled to be completed by December 2010 but was expected to be expedited to catch the Games rush in October. Only 15% of the work has been completed so far.

The project has already been delayed several times. The Haryana government had cleared the project in 2006 but Delhi government and Delhi Urban Arts Commission cleared it only in January last year.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7036354428449753937.post-38721179428936085592009-05-27T06:00:00.000-07:002009-05-27T06:04:27.530-07:00IIT JEE results announced; Nitin Jain of Faridabad topperNitin Jain of Faridabad emerged the topper among more than 10,000 students who qualified in the IIT JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) 2009, the results of which were declared this morning.

Altogether 10,035 students, including 1,048 girls, succeeded in this year's IIT-JEE. This long neglected district which was once a glorious industrial township was recently being dubbed as Gurgaons poor cousin. Connectivity was a major bottleneck.

A flyover at Badarpur was proposed for long due. After almost two decades of flip-flops, the contract was finally awarded to Hindustan Construction. The project is scheduled to be completed by end 2010.

The progress is also visible. On both sides of NH-2 digging of roads apparently to create provision of service roads is quite visible. Infact at some places the depth is so much that even today one could feel as if it is an elevated road.

However, this road might mean bad news to some of the existing commercial establishments. The upcoming mall at Destination Point, which was earlier being developed by Senior Builders, rechristened as Indiabulls Mega Mart, could be affected by the flyover because of non-access from the new flyover. The IT Park by Vatika group could also face the same issue.

The flyover is to conclude someone near the Sarai Chowk, beyond Sec 37. The Abacus Techno Park developed by Crown-Aerens could be marginally affected depending on the end point of the flyover. However, the prestigious Crown-Interiorz mall by the same developer looks beyond the concluding point and could rather get the connectivity advantage and may attract visitors from adjoining Sarita Vihar and other parts of South Delhi. Similarly the RPS IT Park may also remain unaffected.

Exact impacts would be known as and when things shape up.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7036354428449753937.post-88921750291778591432008-12-29T04:20:00.000-08:002008-12-29T04:22:36.585-08:00Four-lane road to link Gurgaon & FaridabadIn a bid to ensure free flow of traffic on two important roads in NCR, Haryana PWD has awarded the widening of these two-lane roads to four-lane ones. Expected to be over in two years, Faridabad-Gurgaon Road (33.5 km) and Ballabhgarh-Sohna Road (32.6 km) will provide much-needed relief to daily commuters as well as to tourists heading from Delhi to getaway destinations like Badkhal Lake, Surajkund Craft Fair, Damdama Lake, Sohna and Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary.

PWD officials said the projects involving Rs 180 crore had been awarded to Reliance Infrastructure. However, the comfortable ride will come at a cost Rs 20 per trip that will be collected as toll fee. Concession period of the project is 17 years. According to Haryana PWD officials, the project also includes bringing in necessary changes in the road geometry to make them safe.

At present, there are several horizontal and vertical curves on the Gurgaon-Faridabad Road, leading to fatal accidents. Hence, there is a necessity to redesign the stretch to make it safe for commuters.

Initially, the project cost was Rs 230 crore, but it was reduced to Rs 180 crore after reviewing the scope of work. The Gurgaon-Faridabad Road starts from Gurgaon-Mehrauli Road at Sikanderpur and ends in Faridabad. The stretch, which passes through crushers' zone, is generally used by truckers carrying quarry materials. Similarly, the the Ballabhgarh-Sohna Road takes off from Ballabhgarh on Delhi-Mathura road on NH-2 and terminates at its junction with Rewari-Palwal road on NH-71B.

As per the bid document, Gurgaon-Faridabad Road runs through urban areas as well as rural habitats. The Ballabgarh-Sohna Road passes through plain terrain of the Aravalis. To undertake the widening, nearly 1,945 trees have to be felled on the Gurgaon-Faridabad stretch and another 3,778 have to be cut for Ballabhgarh-Sohna corridor. "Compensatory afforestation will be done. As per the agreement, the concessionaire will plant and maintain saplings along the stretches,'' said a PWD official.

There will be two toll plazas on Gurgaon-Faridabad road one on crushers' zone road and the other on Pali-Bhakri road. "There are too many openings on this stretch, so we have made the provision of two toll collection points, but no commuter has to pay twice during one trip,'' Haryana PWD secretary K K Jalan said.

Similarly, there will be two toll plazas on the other link road.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
